Judo is a martial art that was born in Japan, and it is now known around the world as an Olympic sport. Judo was established in 1882 by combining jujitsu, a form of wrestling, with mental discipline. Kano Jigoro was the founder of the Japanese Martial Art of Judo. The name Judo was chosen because it means the “gentle or yielding way”. Kano emphasized the larger educational value of training in attack and defense so that it could be a path or way of life that all people could participate in and benefit from. Dr.Kano, President of the University of Education, Tokyo, dedicated his life, studied this ancient martial art of Jujutsu and integrated what he considered to be the best of their techniques into what is now the modern sport of Judo. Whether you are looking for physical fitness, self defense or a great activity to help shape you or your child’s physical and mental development, you will find that our Olympic Gold Foundation can help you to achieve your goals.
Outcomes
Respect
Respect is a huge part of Judo training; you must learn to respect the sport as a whole including your opponent and their ability, the referees and their decisions.
Agility
We focus on training our Judo to be agile and use their mobility to change the body’s position efficiently. This helps their balance, speed, strength and coordination.
Strength
Being able to use your strength and power whilst maintaining control is important, but we also train our judoka to use their opponents own strength against them.
Technique
Our judokas train hard on their technical ability and try to master each individual throw.
About the Program
Beginners are taught the fundamentals of falling (Ukemi) and then move on to the basics of throwing. As they advance, the students are taught the intricacies of various throws and learn to chain them together. Judo is a perfect art for children to learn balance, coordination, movement and discipline. Olympic Gold Foundation offers a strong emphasis on Judo training competition. For those who wish to compete in a variety of National and International tournaments, we work individually and in groups to focus on necessary strategies and skills needed for success in Judo competition.
