Gymnastics developed in ancient Greece, in Sparta and Athens, and was used as a method to prepare men for warfare. Gymnastics is a sport that includes exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups.
Program
At our Olympic Gold Foundation gymnastics club, we offer classes for boys and girls of all ages and abilities. Our Recreational Gymnastics programme caters for gymnasts 4+ through to teenagers. We cater for both boys and girls and train on a wide variety of apparatus. Our sessions run Monday to Saturday, and range from 1 – 2 hours dependant on ability. Our Adult Gymnastics sessions last for 1
hour 30 minutes and are appropriate for adults 18+ of all abilities, regardless of your gymnastics background. The session has a structured warm up, which is compulsory. Our coach will run a structured session on floor, and each week focus on 2/3 apparatus to teach various skills and help you achieve your goals. Alternatively, if you want to do your own thing, you are more than welcome to explore the gym and train on the areas you wish to improve.
We use wide range equipment and a teaching plan that has been designed so children learn a wide variety of skills. We all know that children are very energetic and want to flip and somersault, so we teach them the fundamental skills that they can progress onto the more challenging moves. We have six levels within the Better Gymnastics: Preschool (Recreational Gymnastics), Fundamental Preparation, Intermediate and advance. The introductory levels – Preschool, Fundamental, and Preparation – focus on basic skills and techniques. Once complete, children can then begin the more challenging levels – Intermediate and Advance.
Although the aim is to help each child achieves a number of skills at each level before moving on to the next, we also teach them hundreds of other skills within gymnastics to keep the lessons different and fun. Our team of qualified, enthusiastic and passionate gymnastics coaches share the desire to encourage as many children as possible to take part in and enjoy gymnastics.
